Customs decisive move in the gold smuggling case. Journalist Anil Nambiar appeared before customs. Arun Balachandran has also been issued notice to appear. Former Chief Minister’s IT Fellow Arun Balachandran and journalist Anil Nambiar have been summoned by Customs for further information on those who provided advice and assistance to the accused.
Aruna Balachandran gives the flat to Swapna Suresh just before the gold arrives through the diplomatic luggage. Earlier, Arun had said that this was the suggestion of M Shivashankar, the former principal secretary to the chief minister. Arun had also presented its WhatsApp messages. But even before this, Arun Balachandran and Swapna Suresh had some deals. Customs has also received records of phone conversations between them.
Anil Nambiar was caught calling Swapna Suresh even before the news of the gold smuggling broke on July 5. He also told Swapna Customs that Anil Nambiar had advised him to stick to his position that this was diplomatic luggage. Customs has also received details of how Anil Nambiar was banned from traveling abroad in an earlier check case. Customs will take action, including arrest, only if Anil Nambiar is directly involved in gold smuggling.
