KM Basheer’s death, Sriram Venkataraman seeking time for the third time

Thiruvananthapuram: In the case related to Media worker K.M Basheer’s accidental death, the accused Sriram Venkataraman again sought more time to present his case against him. The accused sought more time without appearing in court. The court granted time and ordered to come to the court on 18th of next month to hear the argument.

The order belongs to Thiruvananthapuram 1st Additional District Sessions Court Judge K.P. Anil Kumar. This is the third time Sriram is seeking time to make his case. The defendant sought time even when the case was heard on March 30 last year and December 11 last year. The 1st Additional District Sessions Court of Thiruvananthapuram has summoned the accused for trial in a situation where Sreeram had filed a revision petition seeking acquittal in the case and received a heavy blow from the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court rejected Sriram Venkataraman’s revision petition and ordered that the case be heard on August 25, 2023. The intervention of the Supreme Court was rejecting the argument of the accused that the case of homicide cannot stand. Earlier, the High Court had taken a similar stand. Sriram Venkataraman approached the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict which restored the charges of manslaughter and destruction of evidence in the case.

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s position by pointing out that whether the crime of homicide can stand must be clarified in the trial. With this, the situation was ready for Sriram Venkataraman to be tried for the crime of murder.
