Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has slammed the Imran government and his military for interfering in Pakistan’s democratic process. He was addressing a video conference of opposition parties in Pakistan. He criticized the Pakistani military for trampling on the sanctity of the people’s vote. The military has not allowed a single prime minister to complete a five-year term in Pakistan’s history. The military has a stronger parallel government than a democratically elected government. Nawaz Sharif also scoffed that the government is above the government. He blamed the military’s reluctance to recognize elected representatives and the existence of a parallel government as the root cause of Pakistan’s problems.

“According to the Constitution, Pakistan’s democracy is based on popular vote. This is the principle of all democracies around the world. When the vote has no value, it means that the democratic process itself is a sham. When a representative of the people is elected here, he is first weakened and then expelled. In Pakistan’s 73 – year history, not a single Prime Minister has been allowed to serve a full term. The reality is that the parallel government in Pakistan is stronger than the current government. The military leadership that backed Imran, who rigged the 2018 general election, is leading the country to ruin. Various polling agents of the party were also expelled from the polling stations that day. “Even the legitimacy of Imran’s victory is in doubt,” said Nawaz Sharif.
