The previous day, Israel had reported a terrorist attack on the venue of the Olympics. The terrorist organization had warned that it would attack France and try to disrupt the Olympics. Current news suggests that this warning was not misplaced. A high-speed rail attacked in France just hours before the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
It is reported that there was a fire on the rail system in Paris last night. Due to this, the rail traffic to most of the areas was disrupted. Railway systems were destroyed in many places. Due to this, the authorities informed that the trains, including those to Paris, have been cancelled. In many places, the attackers destroyed the systems by setting them on fire. The attacks mostly affected the high-speed LGV Atlantic and North-East lines from Paris to the coast.
France’s transport minister condemned the attack. France’s Transport Minister Xil said that a sabotage attempt was suspected and a detailed investigation would be carried out. He also clarified that no matter what kind of attacks are unleashed, the Olympics will be held in Paris in the best possible way.
At present, trains to other lines are being diverted. Officials said that as the attacks are likely to continue, passengers should be temporarily prevented from reaching the railway stations and the fares of canceled train tickets would be refunded.
