Kannur: Minister Saji Cherian has announced immediate financial assistance of ₹25,000 each for the families of the theater artists who died in the bus accident in Kelakam. Anjali (32), a resident of Muthukulam, Kayamkulam, and Jecy Mohan, a resident of Thevalakkara, Karunagappally, were the two artists who lost their lives in the accident. The government will also cover the treatment costs for the injured. The minister further stated that the government will examine providing additional support.
The accident occurred when the vehicle, which was returning from a play in Kadannappally and heading toward Bathery, overturned at the Malayampadi sharp curve. There were 14 people in the troupe, and 9 of them, injured, were admitted to a private hospital in Kannur. The injured include Unni, Umesh, Suresh, Shibu from Kayamkulam, Vijayakumar, Bindu from Ernakulam, Chellappan from Kalluvarathukkal, Shyam from Kollam, and Subhash from Athirunkal, who are all receiving treatment at the private hospital in Kannur.
