The anticipatory bail plea of PP Divya, former President of the Kannur District Panchayat, has been rejected by Thalassery District Sessions Court Judge K.T. Nisar Ahmed in connection with the suicide of ADM Naveen Babu. The plea was dismissed following strong opposition from Public Prosecutor K. Ajith Kumar. The prosecution argued that the cause of the suicide was murder and that if there was a complaint, it could have been submitted to higher authorities; they also claimed that Divya arrived at the event without being invited.
Divya’s lawyer, K. Vishwan, contended that the collector had invited Divya to the farewell ceremony and that she was willing to cooperate with the investigation, emphasizing her status as a woman. Attorney John S. Ralph, representing Naveen Babu’s wife, Manjusha, argued that there is no evidence to support the claim that Naveen Babu accepted a bribe and that only allegations remain. He also stated that the report submitted by the prosecution to the court lacks evidence against Naveen regarding corruption.
Meanwhile, a special investigation team is preparing to arrest PP Divya. She arrived in Kannur last night and sought treatment at a private hospital in Payyannur due to high blood pressure. She is currently in hiding at a relative’s house in the Kankol-Alappadav area.
