Mumbai: Noel Tata, half-brother of Ratan Tata, has been appointed the chairman of Tata Trusts following a board meeting held today. Noel, who currently serves as vice chairman of Tata Steel and Titan, takes over the leadership of Tata Trusts, which oversees 14 trusts under the Tata group.
Noel Tata is the son of Simone, Ratan Tata’s stepmother, who hails from a French-Swiss Catholic family. While Ratan and Noel share the same father, Naval Tata, they have different mothers.
In addition to his new role, Noel Tata is also the chairman of Trent, Voltas, Tata Investment Corporation, and Tata International. He played a crucial role in the growth of the Tata Group in the early 2000s. His appointment as chairman follows the meetings of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust and Dorabji Tata Trust, the two main trusts that guide the Tata Group.
Ratan Tata, born into a traditional Parsi family in 1937, was raised by his grandmother after his parents, Naval and Sooni Tata, divorced when he was 10 years old.
