In Pakistan’s Diamer district, a bus carrying a wedding party tragically plunged into the Indus River, resulting in the death of 26 people. The accident occurred during a journey from Astore in Gilgit-Baltistan to Chakwal in Punjab. According to Pakistani media, the bus was traveling at a high speed and lost control before it flipped into the river.
The bus was carrying 27 passengers, with one individual miraculously surviving but admitted to the hospital with severe injuries. The bride, initially rescued, later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Thirteen bodies have been recovered from the river so far, and search efforts are ongoing for the remaining victims.
The completely wrecked bus was pulled from the river using a crane. Reports indicate a high frequency of road accidents in Pakistan, often attributed to traffic law violations and poor road conditions. In August, two separate bus accidents claimed 36 lives and injured many, raising concerns over road safety.
