In a significant decision, the Kerala High Court’s Division Bench has canceled an earlier order by a Single Bench directing the filing of a case against police officers, including former Malappuram SP Sujith Das, over allegations of harassment by a housewife from Ponnani. The Division Bench reversed the Single Bench’s directive, which had previously instructed the Ponnani Magistrate Court to register an FIR based on the woman’s complaint.
The woman alleged that SP Sujith Das, along with other police officials, subjected her to harassment. Dissatisfied with the lack of action on her complaint, she approached the High Court, prompting the Single Bench to issue an order requiring a decision within ten days. Following this directive, the Ponnani Magistrate had ordered the registration of a case. The Division Bench’s recent ruling, however, nullifies this directive, providing relief to the officers involved.
