California: Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams successfully completed a spacewalk after a 12-year hiatus. Williams stepped out of the International Space Station (ISS) for critical maintenance work. Accompanying her was astronaut Nick Hague. The mission, titled “US Spacewalk 91,” involved essential repair and upgrade tasks on the station.
This is the first time Sunita Williams has stepped out of the ISS in seven months since arriving at the space station. This is the eighth spacewalk of Sunita Williams’ career. Nick Hague is completing his fourth spacewalk. Sunita and Nick spent about six hours outside the International Space Station, performing maintenance on the Nicer X-ray telescope.
The gyro, which controls the ISS’s orientation control, was restored. The two also checked to see if any other repairs were needed immediately. NASA announced that Sunita Williams and Nick Hague completed essential repairs to the International Space Station to ensure smooth operations and extended service life.
