Delhi: India abstained from voting on the resolution in favor of Palestine. India abstained from voting on the resolution that Israel should vacate the occupied territories of Palestine within one year. 124 countries supported the resolution. The United States opposed the resolution while 42 countries, including India and the UK, abstained.
The Ministry of External Affairs explained that the two countries abstained because they were of the opinion that the matter should be resolved through negotiation. It is also noteworthy that India abstained from the vote while Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Joe Biden on Saturday.
