Kannur: Swapna Suresh granted bail in the case of defaming CPM State Secretary MV Govindan.
Swapna approached the court demanding the cancellation of the defamation case against him. Swapna’s lawyer raised issues in the High Court including the fact that she lives in Bengaluru and the difficulty in appearing in the Thaliparamp Magistrate’s Court. The lawyer said that nothing defamatory has been said and that matter has been submitted along with the petition.
Swapna Suresh was present in Thaliparam Magistrate Court and got bail. Swapna Suresh, the first accused in the case, was not present in the court despite being summoned to appear several times.
Swapna’s allegation was that MV Govindan tried to influence her through Vijesh Pillai, a native of Kannur, asking her to withdraw from the allegations against the Chief Minister and for this, she was promised 30 crore rupees. Then MV Govindan filed a defamation case against Swapna. Swapna has approached the High Court requesting to cancel this.
Earlier, the court had rejected Swapna’s request to shift the questioning related to the case to Kochi. The court said that the investigating officer cannot go behind the accused.Govindan approached the court stating that this has brought defamation to the Chief Minister and himself. The police also registered a case against Swapna on the complaint lodged by the CPM area secretary. Swapna’s plea to cancel this is under consideration by the High Court. Swapna Suresh said that he stands by the allegations.
