Tahawwur Rana Faces Major Setback in US Supreme Court; Plea Against Extradition to India Rejected

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an emergency plea filed by Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the Mumbai terror attack case, seeking a stay on his extradition to India. Rana argued that if extradited, he would face imminent death.

In his appeal, Rana, a Pakistani-origin Muslim, claimed that extradition to India would expose him to severe torture. He also cited serious health issues, including Parkinson’s disease and symptoms of bladder cancer, as reasons to block his extradition.

Earlier, the U.S. Supreme Court dismissed Rana’s petition requesting a review of the extradition order. The decision to extradite him was announced by former U.S. President Donald Trump during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the U.S. Following the announcement, PM Modi welcomed the U.S. government’s decision to hand over Rana to India.
