CPM leader Thomas Isaac stated that the Vizhinjam issue should not be turned into a controversy over claims and disputes. He said there is no disagreement that the Vizhinjam project is meant for the benefit of the region. He also mocked Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan in this context. Isaac’s criticism came after Satheesan made it clear yesterday that he would not be attending the commissioning ceremony of the Vizhinjam port project.
Isaac remarked that it’s not a wedding — it’s a project for the good of the region. He also pointed out that the Opposition Leader initially claimed he was not invited, and later changed his statement to say he was not invited properly.
The government invited the Opposition Leader to the ceremony only after criticisms were raised by the opposition. The commissioning is part of the government’s fourth anniversary celebrations. The initial explanation from the Minister of Ports was that the opposition was not invited because they boycotted the celebrations.
