The 14th Dalai Lama, Tibet’s supreme leader, arrived at the Tibetan refugee camp in Bylakuppe on Sunday. Authorities have stated that he will be resting here for a month. The Dalai Lama will stay at the Tashilompo Buddhist Monastery within the camp.
He arrived at the TDL School grounds in Bylakuppe by a special helicopter from Bangalore around noon on Sunday. Representatives from the Mysore district administration and the camp welcomed him in a traditional manner. Jigme Sultanim, a representative from the Tibetan camp, mentioned that the Dalai Lama had arrived in Bylakuppe for rest on the doctor’s advice due to the extreme cold at the Tibetan center in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Doctors had recently advised the Dalai Lama, who had been undergoing treatment in the U.S., to take complete rest. It is in this context that he arrived in Bylakuppe, South India. This is the 26th time in eight years that the Dalai Lama has visited the Bylakuppe camp. Sources have confirmed that there will be no public events during this visit. The Mysore district police have made security arrangements for the Dalai Lama.
