Kochi: MLA Uma Thomas sustained serious injuries on the evening of December 29 after falling at the Kaloor International Stadium in Kochi. In connection with the incident, P.S. Jineesh Kumar, the owner of Oscar International Events, has been taken into custody. The Palarivattom police apprehended the accused from Thrissur.
Earlier, both Jineesh and Mridangavision MD M. Nighosh Kumar had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail but were instructed to surrender. While Nighosh Kumar surrendered, he sought time for treatment due to a urinary-related health issue. Jineesh, who was discharged from the hospital, was expected to appear before the investigating officers yesterday but failed to do so. Subsequently, the Palarivattom police went to Thrissur and took him into custody. He is currently being interrogated. Interim bail granted to Nighosh Kumar, Mridangavision CEO Shameer Abdul Rahim, K.K. Productions owner M.T. Krishnakumar, and V. Benny, who built the temporary stage that caused the accident, expires today. It will be decided in court today whether their bail will be extended.
The High Court had expressed dissatisfaction over granting interim bail to the accused in a previous session. Nighosh Kumar had approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail in a case related to alleged fraud connected to the event. The court also criticized the organizers for collecting money from participants of the dance event and for continuing the program despite a person falling from the stage.
