Tik Tok may be Banned in US

Washington: On Wednesday, Biden signed legislation banning Tik Tok in the US – banning the Chinese app Tik-Tok in the United States. America is now banning what Narendra Modi banned years ago in India. Tik Tok is a challenge to national secrets and misguided youth.

The Senate passed a bill on Tuesday that would force the sale of ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok — or ban it altogether — and President Biden signed it into law on Wednesday.

The divest-or-ban bill is now law.
Congress passed the measure citing national security concerns due to TikTok’s Chinese ties. Lawmakers and security experts said the Chinese government could lean on ByteDance to access sensitive data on its 170 million US users or spread propaganda.

The law would allow TikTok to continue operating in the United States if ByteDance is sold within 270 days, or about nine months, which the president can extend for a year.

The move is likely to face legal challenges and possible resistance from Beijing, which could block sales or exports of the technology. TikTok chief executive Zhou Chew said in a video posted on the platform that he would challenge the law. “We are confident and will continue to fight for your rights in the courts.
