U.S Supreme Court Rejects Appeal, Orders Extradition of Mumbai Attack Accused Tahawwur Rana to India

The U.S Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, clearing the way for his extradition to India. This marks the end of India’s long legal battle to bring Rana to trial.

Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian citizen, is accused of involvement in the deadly terrorist attack that claimed numerous lives in Mumbai. He has been held at the Los Angeles Metropolitan Detention Center, and India has been trying for years to secure his extradition for trial. Rana filed several appeals in U.S. federal courts against the extradition, all of which were dismissed.

He also sought relief from the U.S. Court of Appeals, but after facing setbacks, Rana turned to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of India, making his extradition possible.
