Wayanad Disaster; Criteria for Estimates Prepared by Government Should be Informed, High Court

Kochi: The High Court should inform the criteria of the estimate prepared by the government in the Wayanad disaster. Earlier, the release of the related document was controversial. The government had estimated the amount for various purposes related to disaster relief and rehabilitation. Details of this have been requested.

The document contained figures including Rs 75,000 for cremating a dead body. Under the Disaster Management Act, there are norms regarding the amount that can be spent for each purpose. The explanation of the state government was that according to this, it is an estimate to be paid to the central government and not the amount spent.

The government said that the amount spent was false propaganda. Following this, the High Court asked to inform the criteria adopted to calculate the amount.
