Wayanad Gives Emotional Send-Off to Army Soldiers

A section of the soldiers who carried out the rescue operation in Wayanad Mundakai will return today. The soldiers were will give sent off at the Collectorate. Soldiers from 13 military bases have returned. Minister Muhammad Riaz said that the army stood by the team at an emotional stage and it was painful to see the team members go.

A temporary Bailey Bridge maintenance team will remain in the area. The helicopter search team will also continue till further instructions. The army also said that the rest will return.

The minister said that the rehabilitation of the disaster victims in Mundakai will be implemented on war footing. The list of rental houses will be available tomorrow. The minister added that it is hoped that private individuals will provide the vacant houses and flats.

Meanwhile, a mass search will be held tomorrow in Mundakkai where the landslide occurred. Minister K. Rajan said that anyone can come and search. Today’s search in Sunrise Valley has begun. The search was delayed due to inclement weather. The unofficial estimate is that 413 people died in the disaster. ADGP MR Ajit Kumar said that the army has not returned after completing the search in Mundakkai. Ajith Kumar informed that the joint inspection is still going on.
