Delhi: The court delivered its verdict today in the Periya double murder case, which occurred on February 17, 2019. The court found 14 individuals guilty in connection with the case. Responding to the judgment, BJP state president K Surendran expressed his views.
Surendran stated that the Periya double murder is another case, after the TP Chandrasekharan murder, in which senior CPM leaders were convicted. He alleged that a settlement between the CPM and Congress led to the acquittal of 10 accused individuals in the case. He also claimed that if the Kerala Police had conducted the investigation, all accused might have been acquitted.
Addressing the recent cake controversy in Thrissur, Surendran criticized VS Sunil Kumar’s comments as unnecessary. He clarified that BJP did not only engage with the Thrissur Mayor but reached out broadly. He also mentioned that BJP candidate Suresh Gopi’s victory in Thrissur was not solely due to BJP votes. Surendran advised Sunil Kumar to focus on analyzing and correcting the reasons behind electoral defeats in Thrissur rather than making baseless criticisms.
He further questioned whether Sunil Kumar had ever issued Christmas greetings and defended the BJP’s actions, asking why a positive initiative was being criticized. Surendran concluded by questioning the politicization of Christmas and emphasized that Sunil Kumar’s remarks were rejected by the public, forcing him to retract.
