Thiruvananthapuram: It was found that government employees were receiving social security pensions illegally. Following this, action is continuing against those who received welfare pensions illegally. 31 people from the Public Works Department have been suspended.
The money illegally received from them will be recovered with 18% interest. It was found that 47 people in the Public Works Department had illegally received pensions. Of these, 15 are working in other departments. One has also retired from service.
The Finance Department’s discovery that 1458 government employees were receiving social security pension illegally came as a big surprise. The list included gazetted officers. Meanwhile, service organizations have welcomed the disciplinary action. The organizations demanded action against those who committed the crime without blaming the employees in general. The departments’ move did not touch the higher-ups in the incident. So far, action has been taken and recommendations for action have been made only against lower-level employees.
