Kannur: Four blankets and two pillowcases were found by the bedroll staff in the bag of the person who got off at Kannur after the train journey. A young man was caught after stealing a blanket and a pillow case from the coach. He had reached Thiruvananthapuram-Mangalore Malabar Express.
An average of 60 blankets and more than 30 cushions are lost every month in five trains from Mangaluru depot alone, including the Malabar Express. Due to the increase in theft, many vehicles now have three-tier AC. Towels are not provided in the coach.
When such thefts take place, the agency recovers the lost amount from the bedroll contract employees. It is unthinkable that any of the ‘tip top’ passengers in 3rd AC and 2nd AC would do such an act. But the fact is that many people take their pillow cases with them when they go.
