Centre instructs states that six years of age is required to join the first class

New Delhi: From the coming academic year, the central directive should be at least six years of age for first class admission. Many states including Kerala have not implemented the new procedure. A letter has been sent to the state governments in this regard.

According to the National Education Policy, the proposal was put forward that six years of age should be attained for admission to the first class. The Center had asked for its implementation in March 2021 and February 2023. But Kerala was not aware of this.

With this, the center has again given instructions. The letter also said that the guidelines should be published after making changes. 14 States and Union Territories have reduced the age limit to six. But the state government is of the view that the central directive cannot be implemented in the coming year as well.
