Woman leader’s suicide, DYFI regional secretary arrested

Kuttanad:A member of the CPI(M) local committee was detained in relation to the suicide incident of a DYFI women leaderA. The Kainady police arrested PN Ananthu (26), the regional secretary of DYFI Kavalam and a member of the CPI(M) local committee. This arrest is related to the suicide of Athira, a 25-year-old Kavalam resident and the daughter of RV Tilak, a law student and involved member of the DYFI Block Committee.

The marriage between the two was fixed two years ago. After the engagement, Ananthu visit Athira’s house every now and then, used to come every day. He had reached home on the day of the incident. Athira was found hanging from the upstairs window of the house when her father and mother, who are fishmongers, came home at night after work.

On the day of the incident, the grandfather had told his relatives and the police that there was a verbal argument at home and Ananthu had beaten Athira. While the investigation in the case was in progress, on 13th of this month, Athira’s grandfather died due to old age related diseases. Ananthu was produced in the Ramankari court and remanded. The arrest has been made on charges of incitement to suicide, insulting women and physical violence.
