Actor Koottikkal Jayachandran granted anticipatory bail in POCSO case

Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted anticipatory bail to actor Koottikkal Jayachandran in the POCSO case. The bail has been granted with conditions. The court has directed that he should appear for questioning whenever called by the investigating officer and cooperate with the investigation. Justice Nagaratna also said that if the conditions are violated, the anticipatory bail will be cancelled. Justice Nagaratna said that the final order should be reported in the court, not the arguments.

The Supreme Court also directed that a proper investigation be conducted into the case. A case was registered against Koottikal Jayachandran in June last year. Although the case was registered, the police had not arrested the actor. The police had said that Koottikal Jayachandran was absconding. The police said that they had searched his residence and the houses of his friends and relatives. While the investigation was ongoing, the actor had filed a bail application in the Kozhikode POCSO court, but it was rejected.

The bail application was rejected on July 12. He then approached the High Court with an anticipatory bail application, but the High Court also did not grant anticipatory bail. The High Court rejected the anticipatory bail application, accepting the government’s argument that it was a serious case and bail should not be granted. The actor later approached the Supreme Court.
