Three days after the death of Kannur ADM Naveen Babu, the CPM removed PP Divya from the position of District Panchayat President. Advocate KK Ratnakumari will be appointed as the new District Panchayat President. The action was taken as protests grew stronger over the death of Naveen Babu.
Various organizations had demanded the removal of Divya and the initiation of an investigation against her. As the police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation, the District Secretariat clarified that PP Divya should step down from the position of District President. The statement also mentioned that Divya accepted this, and the Secretariat decided to consider Advocate KK Ratnakumari as the new District Panchayat President.

Following the unexpected and tragic demise of Kannur ADM Naveen Babu, the Kannur District Secretariat had earlier made certain remarks. The criticism made by the District Panchayat President was intended as a good faith protest against corruption, but certain comments made during the farewell meeting should have been avoided, according to the party’s stance at that time. The party had also called on the government to conduct a comprehensive investigation.
Now that the police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation, the District Secretariat concluded that PP Divya should step down from the position of District Panchayat President. Divya accepted this decision, and the Secretariat decided to consider Advocate KK Ratnakumari as her replacement.
