Meanwhile, the court rejected the appeal of the second accused and girlfriend of Nino Mathew, Anushanti, and upheld the double life sentence awarded by the trial court. The verdict was delivered by a bench of Justices PB Suresh Kumar and Johnson John.

The court also considered the government’s plea seeking confirmation of the death sentence of Nino, the first accused in the case. On April 16, 2014, Nino Mathew hacked Anushanti’s daughter and mother-in-law to death.

Vijayamma (57), wife of Thankappan Chettiar, and granddaughter Swastika (4) were killed in Attingal Alamkot Mannurbhag Tusharam. The accused were charged with murder, attempted murder, destruction of evidence and conspiracy.

Nino Mathew and Anushanti were friends and employees of Thiruvananthapuram Technopark. The grandmother and grandson were killed to avoid obstacles to living together with Anusanti. The trial court found both guilty and sentenced Nino Mathew to death and Anushanti to double life. Anushanti’s husband Lijeesh was seriously injured in Nino’s attack.
