G7 summit; Prime Minister to meet Pope Francis today

The Prime Minister, arrived in Italy to attend the G7 summit, will meet Pope Francis today. The Pope’s visit to India may be discussed. This is Modi’s first foreign visit after assuming office for the third time as Prime Minister.

The Indian Prime Minister is attending the meeting at the invitation of the host country, Italy. Pope Francis will attend the G7 leaders’ session on the ethics of artificial intelligence.

Modi returned to Italy yesterday. US President Joe Biden, French Prime Minister Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are participating in the summit.

The summit will also include a session on the Russian invasion by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Prime Minister Modi will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, External Affairs Secretary Vinay Kwatra and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Prime Minister Modi is attending the G7 summit for the fifth time in a row. India has participated in ten G7 summits in the past. This is the eleventh.
