Thiruvananthapuram: The state is likely to experience thunderstorms with rain today as well. The intensified summer rainfall is due to a low-pressure area that has formed over the southern Bay of Bengal. A yellow alert has been issued in three districts—Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta—where isolated heavy rainfall is expected.
The low-pressure system over the southern Bay of Bengal is causing the increase in summer rains across the state. This system is expected to move in a northwesterly direction over the southwest Bay of Bengal until April 8, and then likely shift northward within the next 48 hours. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated heavy thunderstorms with lightning are expected in parts of Kerala until April 11.
