Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain is likely in the state in the coming hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert in several districts. The alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kottayam, and Idukki districts. The forecast indicates the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall refers to precipitation between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
The IMD also stated that in the next three hours, isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in parts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki districts. Strong winds with speeds up to 40 km/h are also expected in these areas.
Since lightning may not always be visually detected, the IMD advises the public not to ignore precautionary measures. Meanwhile, there are no restrictions on fishing along the Kerala–Karnataka–Lakshadweep coasts today, according to the weather department.
