India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of widespread rainfall across the state today. Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are likely, with an Orange Alert declared in three districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta.
Isolated areas in these districts may experience very heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki districts. Rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours is categorized as heavy rainfall, with intense spells expected over a short period. The IMD has cautioned about the possibility of flash floods, lightning-induced floods, and landslides due to the heavy downpour.
Urban areas and low-lying regions are at risk of waterlogging if the rainfall intensifies. The IMD has urged the public and local authorities to remain vigilant. Special caution is advised in Sabarimala, as the pilgrimage season is ongoing. The Revenue Department has directed the Pathanamthitta District Collector to ensure heightened vigilance in the region to prevent any potential mishaps.
