Heavy Rain Likely in the State Today; Yellow Alert Issued in Eight Districts

Heavy rain is expected in the state today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over the next four days. Due to the anticipated heavy rain, a yellow alert has been issued in eight districts today, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.

On Friday, a yellow alert is in effect for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts. On Saturday, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, and Wayanad will remain under a yellow alert, followed by Kozhikode on Sunday. The forecast predicts isolated heavy rainfall, with IMD estimating rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within 24 hours.

A low-pressure system over the central-west Bay of Bengal near the northern Tamil Nadu – southern Andhra Pradesh coast has weakened into a cyclonic circulation near northern Tamil Nadu in the southwest Bay of Bengal. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is present over the southeastern Arabian Sea near the Kerala coast. In this context, light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms is expected in the state over the next five days.
