Heavy Rainfall Hits Kerala; Rain warning in 9 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain is likely to continue in the state. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that rain is likely to occur in Central Kerala, North Kerala and hilly areas. Rain warning has been issued in 9 districts today. Orange alert declared in Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Yellow alert has also been announced in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts.

There is rain forecast in 9 districts tomorrow. Monsoon winds have increased to a maximum speed of 60 to 65 km per hour along the south Kerala coast. Unexpected rain is likely in many places including the hilly areas. The disaster management authority said that the public should be alert as there is a possibility of strong winds and thunderstorms along with the rain.

Prohibition for fishing will continue in Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts due to strong winds and bad weather conditions. Special caution should be exercised in Kerala-Tamil Nadu coasts due to high waves and sea storms.
