Heavy rains cause widespread damage and waterlogging in Kozhikode, Thrissur and Kochi

Heavy rain continues in the state. There was widespread damage in Kozhikode district. Wards and the ICU of the Medical College’s and child care center were flooded.

One person was injured when the guard wall of the service road collapsed on top of the house at Pantheerangavu Kodal pass on the national highway. Mavoor Tengilakadav Ayamkulam road collapsed. The wall of the Kunnamangalam police station collapsed on top of the house. The wall of the house collapsed in Tiruvambadi.

Damage has been reported in various parts of the state due to heavy rains. Aluva and Kalamasery parts of Ernakulam were flooded at many places. A well collapsed in Aluva. There is an orange alert iisued today in seven districts from Ernakulam to Wayanad. Meanwhile, the rain that started last night has eased a bit.

The district collector called an emergency meeting to resolve the waterlogging in Thrissur. ADM Corporation secretary in charge of disaster management and people’s representatives will participate in the meeting. The situation that led to waterlogging in the corporation limits will be investigated. Opposition leader Rajan Pallan accused the Corporation of being responsible for the waterlogging.

Air India Express flights from Karipur are delayed due to heavy rain. Abu Dhabi and Muscat flights are delayed. Some flights to Karipur were diverted to Mangalore. Due to heavy rain in Malappuram Kakancheri, landslides fell on the road. In Malappuram district, Edakkara town and Pulikal were flooded.

The body of a youth who had gone fishing in Kottayam was found. The deceased was Vimod Kumar, a native of Mangatukuzhi, Onamthuruth. It is believed that the young man fell into the water while fishing.
