Rahul Gandhi took charge as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The Congress is taking it back after a decade. Now as the leader of the opposition, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will participate in the appointment of key officials like CBI director, chief election commissioners, chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and chief vigilance commissioner. It was because the minimum standard was not met. Now Congress itself has 99 MPs. He does not even need the permission of other opposition parties to take this position
The Prime Minister and a Union Minister are involved in the appointment process of key officials like CBI Director, Chief Election Commissioners, Chairman National Human Rights Commission and Chief Vigilance Commissioner. But as the leader of the opposition, Rahul will have an opinion.
The 54-year-old leader is the third member of the Gandhi family to become the Leader of the Opposition. His father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was the leader of the opposition during the VP Singh government in 1989-90. His mother, former UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, held the position during the 1999-2004 tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government.
As leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi will enjoy the status of a cabinet minister and get an office and staff in Parliament House. Rahul ditched his usual white t-shirt and pants and changed into a Rajiv Gandhi-style white kurta-pajama combo. He was led to his chair.
