High Court cancels Munambam Judicial Commission appointment

The High Court has ruled that the Munambam Judicial Commission lacks legal validity and has canceled the government order appointing the commission. The court clarified that decisions regarding the land dispute should be made by the Waqf Board and the Tribunal. The verdict was delivered by Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas.

The High Court’s ruling came in response to a petition filed by the Waqf Protection Forum challenging the government’s appointment of a judicial commission for the Munambam land issue. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas observed that the appointment order was issued without considering relevant facts and, therefore, should be annulled.

Earlier, the court had raised doubts about the government’s authority to appoint a judicial commission in this matter, especially considering previous court rulings and the fact that the issue was already under the jurisdiction of the Waqf Tribunal.
