Shivagiri Madam has demanded that K. J. Yesudas be granted entry into the Guruvayur Temple. In support of temple reform, the Madam has decided to stage a protest in front of the Guruvayur Devaswom next month. The primary demand of the protest will be the entry of Yesudas into the temple, said Shivagiri Madam President Swami Sachidananda.
The Shivagiri Dharma Sangham Trust stated that denying entry to 85-year-old Yesudas, a rare musical genius of the world, would be an injustice to both the artist and the times.
“Yesudas has sung hundreds of songs in devotion to Guruvayurappan, including ‘One day I will go to the Guruvayur temple, the temple doors will open, and I will see Gopakumara.’ Moreover, he is a true devotee of Guruvayurappan. He upholds spiritual values beyond caste and religion, along with ideals of social reform. The state government should also adopt a favorable stance towards him,” Swami Sachidananda stated.
Shivagiri Madam had previously discussed the Guruvayur entry issue with Yesudas. Yesudas had expressed hope that the stance on this matter would change over time. Swami Sachidananda now believes that the time for such a change has arrived.
