High Court quashes disciplinary action against ex-principal of Kasaragod College

Kochi – The disciplinary action against the former principal of the Kasaragod Govt.college, Dr. Rema, was quashed by the Division Bench of the High Court. The High Court’s action is a heavy blow to SFI and the government.

Under the pressure of SFI, the higher education minister directly intervened and removed Rema from the position of principal. The court asked what action was taken against the SFI workers who assaulted the principal. The court asked what right SFI had to harass and assault a principal. One’s freedom of expression is a constitutional right. The court pointed out that it cannot be harmed by taking disciplinary action.

The High Court said that the investigation against Rema was one-sided and did not stand. There was outside interference and interest in the investigation. On the complaint of the SFI unit president, the government took disciplinary measures including transferring Rema.

The complaint was against Rema’s allegation that immoral activities were going on in the college under the leadership of SFI activists and that there was sale of drugs. The principal had accused the former SFI leader of the college by name for inciting the students to engage in immoral activities.
