Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high-temperature alert for Kerala on February 21 and 22, 2025, predicting a rise of 2 to 3°C above normal in isolated areas. The increase in temperature, combined with humid air, may lead to discomfort and heat-related issues.
In light of the extreme heat conditions, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has issued precautionary guidelines for the public, warning that high temperatures can cause heatstroke, sunburn, dehydration, and other severe health issues.
Precautionary Measures
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 AM and 3 PM.
- Drink plenty of clean water, even if you’re not thirsty.
- Avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, and carbonated beverages during the day.
- Wear loose, light-colored cotton clothing.
- Use footwear, umbrellas, or hats while stepping outdoors.
- Consume fresh fruits and vegetables regularly.
- ORS solution and other hydrating fluids are recommended.
- People near forest areas should remain cautious as there is a risk of wildfires.
- Schools and educational institutions must ensure adequate drinking water and ventilation for students.
- Those engaged in strenuous outdoor work should adjust their work schedules and take frequent breaks.
- Authorities urge the public to follow these guidelines to stay safe during the extreme heat conditions.
