Chennai High Court has ordered famous composer AR Rahman to explain in the case filed by the Income Tax Department. Famous composer AR Rahman has been contracted to compose ringtone music for Libra Mobiles in the UK. Rahman has asked for Rs 3 crore 47 lakh as salary to be paid directly to his ARR Foundation.
The Income Tax Department claimed that Rahman had tried to avoid paying income tax. At this hearing, Rahman accepted the party’s explanation and ordered the Chief Commissioner to abandon the investigation. The order was upheld by the Income Tax Department Appellate Tribunal. The case was filed in the Chennai High Court on behalf of the Income Tax Department against the order issued in September 2019.

The bench of Justices Sivagyanam and Bhavani Subramanian, which heard the case, directed that notice be sent to AR Rahman to respond to the petition.
