Income tax department freezes accounts of CPIM Thrissur district committee. The action follows yesterday’s raid. There were Rs.5 crores and 10 lakhs in the account. Account information was not disclosed since 1998. The Bank of India account in the name of the Thrissur District Committee has been frozen by the Income Tax Department.

CPIM Thrissur district committee has Rs 10 crore in one account alone. The current balance in the account, which started in 1998, is five crores and ten lakhs. Out of which Rs 1 crore is fixed deposit. A crore was withdrawn on April 2. Income tax has instructed not to spend this money.

Income-tax has asked to clarify the source of the money. CPIM Thrissur district secretary MM Varghese responded that there is nothing to hide. The party has an account in Bank of India. Bank transactions follow the law. He responded that the move of ED and Income Tax Department was ahead of the elections.
