What is wrong with being dark? Black is not just a color—it represents discomfort, cold authoritarianism, and the heart of darkness. But why is black ridiculed? Black is a beautiful color,” said Chief Secretary Sharada Muraleedharan in a heartfelt note. Initially, she shared a post regarding the issue, which was later deleted within hours. However, she later published a detailed note addressing the matter.
From her Facebook post:
“For the past seven months, there has been a parade of comparisons between me and my predecessor, with the label of being ‘dark-skinned.’ This has made me deeply uncomfortable and ashamed.
Black is not just a color—it signifies the unpleasant, the uneasy, the cold dictatorship, and the heart of darkness. But why is black ridiculed?
Black is the universal truth of the cosmos. It is the most powerful energy vibration known to humanity, capable of absorbing everything—a force that works within everyone. It is the color of office attire and the promise of rain.
When I was four years old, I asked my mother if she could put me back in her womb and bring me out as a fair-skinned beauty. For the past fifty years, I have lived under the label of being ‘not fair enough.’
I must atone for not recognizing the beauty in black, for being attracted to fair skin, and for living under such a label.
What I failed to see, my children did. They helped me realize and embrace the beauty of black. Through them, I have come to understand—black is beautiful.”
