Isolated Thunderstorms with Rain Likely Across All Districts of the State Today

Thiruvananthapuram: There is a possibility of isolated thunderstorms with rain in all districts of the state today, according to the weather department. A low-pressure area over the central-eastern Arabian Sea is expected to move away from the Indian coast in the coming days. A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over the northern Andaman Sea by tomorrow.

This may develop into a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal by Tuesday and further intensify into a deep depression by October 24. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall is expected in Kerala over the next week, with thunderstorms likely to continue until Tuesday.

The National Center for Oceanographic Research has issued an orange alert for all coastal districts of Kerala. There is a warning of high waves and the possibility of “sneaker waves” along Kerala’s coastal areas. The alert predicts waves between 0.8 and 1.5 meters high, along with sneaker waves, between 5:30 AM on Sunday and 11:30 PM on Monday.

Coastal areas, especially low-lying regions, are at risk of flooding and sea surges. A warning has also been issued for high waves and sneaker waves along the Kanyakumari coast. Due to the risk of sea surges, fishermen and coastal residents are advised to remain extremely cautious.
