Kannur district hospital denied treatment; migrant worker died

Kannur: A migrant worker collapsed and died after being denied treatment at the Kannur district hospital. The patient, who was referred to Pariyaram Medical College Hospital from the district hospital, died after collapsing at the nearby bus stand.

The non-state worker succumbed to death without being able to reach the hospital as there was no one to accompany him. He was found dead near the Kannur old bus stand and was taken to the district hospital by the fire brigade. He was disabled due to a broken leg.

The police said that he was showing mental disturbances. The doctors of the district hospital examined him and referred him to the medical college for expert treatment. But the district hospital did not get an ambulance. 108 ambulance was called but the driver refused to take the patient due to lack of attendants.

As there was no other option, he went back to the district hospital but was stopped by the security staff. The reply was that the person referred to the medical college cannot be admitted.

After that, he was forced out of the wheelchair. He collapsed and died while walking out of the hospital. The dead body is kept in the district hospital mortuary.
