Low Pressure System Forms Over Kerala Coast, Rains to Continue

The Central Meteorological Department has warned (Rain Alert) that there is a possibility of light rain in Kerala during Uthadam and Onam. A strong low pressure over North-East Madhya Pradesh has intensified into a severe depression again. According to the Central Meteorological Department, a low pressure area has formed from north Kerala coast to south Gujarat coast.

The cyclone currently over Myanmar is likely to reach over Bangladesh and northwest Bay of Bengal in the next two days. As a result of this, there is a possibility of widespread light to moderate rains in Kerala for the next 7 days. Meanwhile, no alert has been announced in any district in the coming days.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha districts are likely to experience moderate rain at isolated places and gusty winds of up to 30 kmph on Thursday morning. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are also likely to receive light rain at isolated places, the Meteorological Department said.

Although there is no disruption to fishing in the Kerala coast today, strong winds of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional up to 65 kmph are expected over the western parts of the Southwest Arabian Sea, the southwestern parts of the Central Western Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Mannar, the Tamil Nadu coast and the adjoining Kanyakumari coast. Fishing is prohibited in these areas.
