Monsoon arrives in Kerala today; Yellow Alert Issued in 11 Districts

Monsoon will arrive in the state today. Widespread thundershowers are likely during the coming days as a result of strengthening westerly winds. Yellow alert has been declared in 11 districts today. Due to the heavy rain last night, waterlogged areas were formed in Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram. Heavy rains were received in these districts.

Yellow alert has been announced today in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts. Districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam are on yellow alert till Sunday. Yellow alert has also been declared in Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Saturday and Sunday.

Yesterday, fishing was banned in the south Kerala coast and Lakshadweep coast. Today, the South Kerala Coast and the adjoining Central Bay of Bengal are likely to experience strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 km per hour and at some occasions up to 55 km per hour.
