A critical turn in the death of A.D.M. K. Naveen Babu. A case has been filed against Kannur District Panchayat President and CPM leader P.P. Divya, accusing her of murder. Reports from Kannur suggest the possibility of her being arrested on murder charges.
Meanwhile, several dignitaries arrived at Pariyaram Medical College to pay their last respects to Naveen Babu. His body will be taken to his hometown for final rites.
In another significant development, BJP and Yuva Morcha announced a march to P.P. Divya’s residence today. They plan to protest and demand her arrest on murder charges.
A.D.M. Naveen Babu was a staunch CPM supporter and a leader in a left-leaning organization. He was also an active member of the pro-CPM Kerala Gazetted Officers Association. Despite his deep roots in the CPM, it was shocking for many that a CPM leader treated him this way.
There is growing pressure within the CPM to take action against P P Divya. Naveen Babu’s suicide has put both the CPM and the government on the defensive, and calls for Divya’s resignation are mounting. There is also widespread dissent among party members in Naveen Babu’s hometown of Pathanamthitta, further fueling the controversy.
As the upcoming by-elections approach, Divya’s continued tenure could weaken the party’s position. Many human rights organizations and others have filed complaints with the police demanding murder charges against her. In a new development, Naveen Babu’s brother, K. Praveen Babu, has also filed a complaint. He alleges that the suicide was the result of threats made by Divya and a conspiracy with T.V. Prashanth from Niduvallur.
Praveen’s complaint states that during Naveen Babu’s farewell ceremony, P.P. Divya, without being invited, stormed into the event and publicly humiliated him over the issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a petrol pump. She accused him of improper influence in granting the approval after initially denying it.
Naveen Babu’s body was handed over to his relatives, including his brother Praveen Babu, after a post-mortem at Kannur Government Medical College.
Meanwhile, reports indicate growing dissatisfaction among government employees. Many have announced plans for mass leave to protest Naveen Babu’s death, allegedly caused by P.P. Divya’s public humiliation. Revenue department employees are expected to take mass leave across the state as a mark of protest.
