Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat, has said that celebrating New Year is against Islamic law.

Razvi said that Muslims wishing Happy New Year and participating in New Year celebrations are against Islamic law. Therefore, such celebrations should never be attended.

Muslims should not take pride in or celebrate New Year’s celebrations. Razvi clarified that New Year’s celebrations are rooted in Christian traditions and include activities such as dancing and singing. New Year’s celebrations are against Sharia. Such celebrations tarnish Islamic values. Razvi said that such activities are sinful.

Meanwhile, Kashish Warsi, National President of the Sufi Foundation, criticized the Islamic calendar, saying that it is not right to label New Year celebrations as haram, even though the month of Muharram begins. He added that unity between communities should be prioritized.
