Kottayam: PC George, who surrendered at the Erattupetta court in the case of religious hatred in a channel discussion, was remanded in police custody till 6 pm today. Although he had been informed that he would be coming to the Erattupetta police station for questioning, PC George, who surrendered at the Erattupetta court in a very dramatic manner, moved forward with the aim of getting bail in the case. However, the court released him in police custody. Following the court’s decision, PC George was taken from here for a medical examination.
He will be produced in court again at 6 pm today. The court will decide on bail after considering the police report.
When the court considered the case against P.C. George this afternoon, the police had submitted the reports of the cases registered against him earlier to the court. P.C. George arrived in court accompanied by BJP leaders. BJP leaders and workers had been at P.C. George’s house since morning.
The BJP called off the protest after the police issued a notice. The police had been investigating PC George for the past two days. PC George had sought two days’ time to appear after the police started moving to arrest him the previous day. On January 5, PC George made anti-Muslim remarks during a channel discussion. The police registered a case based on a complaint by the Youth League Erattupetta Mandal Committee. The Kottayam Sessions Court and later the High Court had rejected PC George’s anticipatory bail plea.
